Wood County Park District

Crest

Perrysburg Township is home to three parks in the Wood County Park District.

Buttonwood/ Betty C. Black Recreation Area- 27174 Hull Prairie Road

This recreation area is a prime spot for fishermen looking to catch some walleye.

J.C. Reuthinger Memorial Preserve- 30730 Oregon Road

“The Reuthinger Preserve was donated in 2005 by the late Lucille Reuthinger Knepper. The 69-acre preserve is home to the Wood County Park District’s native plant nursery, greenhouse, and Stewardship Department. The Native Plant Program encompasses every aspect of growing native plants from collecting seed to planting plants in our parks and preserves. In 2008 the Friends of the Wood County Park District donated a greenhouse to the preserve enabling the Park District to propagate native plants species on site for the first time. As of 2012, the native plant nursery has 84 different species of native plants in production.  The greenhouse season runs January through May and we grow anywhere from 12,000 to 15,000 plants each season.

The Stewardship Department oversees the land management of the natural areas of all the parks  belonging to the Wood County Park District. The department runs various volunteer programs throughout the year that are open to the public.

In the future, a wetland mitigation project is planned for the section of property along Tracey Road. The Nursery that is located on the Oregon Road side of the property looks to expand to growing native trees and shrubs as well as continuing the expansion of its herbaceous plant production.” (* information from Bryan Bockbrader, Stewardship Coordinator- Wood County Park District)

W.W. Knight Nature Preserve-29530 White Road

“Donated by the family of the late William Windus Knight, this 44-acre preserve offers hiking trails and boardwalks through various natural areas including wetland, remnant swamp woods and native prairie. The pond offers family fishing opportunities. Opened in 2005, the Nature Center at the preserve offers various educational opportunities including a Lookout on Nature Area (LOONA), perfect for bird watching.” (* information from the Wood County Park District website)
