Home Rule Townships
Chapter 504 of the Ohio Revised Code
Authority Granted to Home Rule Townships
- May provide water and sewer services by contract (504.18)
- May hire an independent engineer for road projects (5543.01, 5573.01)
- May increase debt limitation an additional ½% by the trustees, and an additional 5% with the approval of the voters (133.09)
- May adopt local building code and standards (504.13)
- May exercise all powers of local self-government within the unincorporated portion of the township (504.04)
- May adopt and enforce within the unincorporated area of the township local police, sanitary, and other similar regulations that are not in conflict with general laws. (504.04)
- May adopt and enforce within the unincorporated area of the township any resolution of a type described in Section 503.52 or 503.60 of the Revised Code relating to sexually oriented businesses and residency regulation of sex or child victim offenders
- May adopt broader zoning authority allowing for welfare of the community based zoning.
